Staff at Water Plus have stepped, swam and cycled to support a charity and raise awareness around the benefits of mindfulness and moving more.
The aim was to get people moving more and highlight the support available for people in – and outside - the business – ahead of World Mental Health Awareness Day. In recent weeks, people across the business have been taking part in a 500-mile challenge to raise money for North Staffs Mind, the chosen Charity of the Year for Water Plus this year. Over 2,800 miles were completed by the end of September – and more than £200 raised.
By October 7, the team had clocked up over 5,050 miles – ahead of the challenge deadline on 10 October, World Mental Health Awareness Day!
The business, which has its main office in Stoke-on-Trent, has been running various activities this year to raise money for North Staffs Mind. So far, the team have raised nearly £500, and there will be some match-funding from Water Plus to add to the amount raised over the year.
North Staffs Mind is a local mental health charity, which supports over 8,000 adults, children and young people across North Staffordshire each year, by offering advice and providing a wide range of mental health services.
Donations to the Mindful Miles Challenge will help North Staffs Mind continue to be there for anyone who needs help with their mental health. The charity was chosen by the people working for Water Plus to support this year, building on the work they’ve done to support other local charities.
Andy Hughes, Chief Executive of business water retailer Water Plus, said: “Supporting our local community is really important to all of us at Water Plus. It’s brilliant to see so many people and teams getting involved in the Mindful Miles Challenge, which has also helped raise awareness
of the support available for all our employees here at Water Plus.
“Our people are passionate about helping the local community and making a difference for deprived families. We’ve helped several charities this year, and it’s great to see our donations help them to help others; especially with their essential work which is very much needed at this time. We’ll be doing more this year around fundraising for North Staffs Mind too.”
Eleanor Smyth, Fundraising lead at North Staffs Mind, said: “We’re delighted Water Plus has chosen North Staffs Mind as their Charity of the Year. It’s great that they’re highlighting wellbeing and mental health support and resources that are available to all their staff,
as well as supporting our local mental health services.”
